Hello friends, so before sharing today's quote and pretty picture I'd love your feedback on a topic that I've had on my mind. Many of the pictures I've shared with my daily quotes are from
Pinterest....a site I LOVE, but there's some recent buzz on copyright infringements. I personally am flattered when my pictures are pinned but I'd hate to do something that is illegal and unethical so I'm sort of stuck. Any thoughts on how to continue sharing beautiful photos with the daily quote? I definitely don't have enough of my own to share and it seems I should get a photographer's permission before using their photo...which I completely understand and want to respect. Your thoughts, advise?
And while I figure this little dilemma out I'll try to share my own humble photos with the daily quotes. Today's happens to be included in the current issue of one of my favorite magazines
Artful Blogging....yes my friends a dream come true....me in Artful Blogging, what!!! I'll share more about my feature soon....
On to today's quote:
Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold; the feeling of happiness dwells in the soul.
Democritus
As I get older (and wiser) this quote becomes more and more profound to me.
Have a great day!
xo,
Abby

Love the quote Abby...so true. And adore this sweet bouquet! You make everything so lovely!
As far as the copyright, most bloggers etc... will grant permission to use their photos {if not business related} if asked, and if not asked, they at least would like the photos to be linked back to them. The deal with Pinterest is that eventually the origin of the photo is lost. So you could use only photos that you know are linked back to the site they are originally from. That is how I am handling it.
I am water marking photos of my creations so if it's not linked back to me, people can still see who made it, and possibly Google my blog name, since most of my photos are linked to my Etsy shop.
I love Pinterest, and am repinning much less of what others have pinned if the original source isn't there.
Hope that helps!
Have a fabulous day, and know how much I enjoy visiting your blog and seeing your delightful creations!
Hugs,
Becky
Hi Abby...
Not feeling as good about Pinterest as I was before...still in a quandry as to whether I will continue to use it. I received my copy of ARtful Blogging and loved your feature! Beautiful photo! :)
My rule of thumb is to always have a caption below the photo not only with a link back to their site, but with the words, "Photo from ___(blog or photographer's name___)". That way even if the reader doesn't click on it, the source's name gets recognized and it's clear that it's not my photo.
Just my two cents. Love all the lovely photos and quotations. :-)
Use only your own!! I've had my copyright infringed some years ago, and it was not pleasant at all! I can understand the feeling... so I encourage you to use only your own photographs on your blog!! You DO have enough... :)
Hugs!
Hmmm....only the other day I read an article about this very thing Abby but it was linked from somewhere else and I can't find it now. It was written by a lawyer who had decided to delete their own pinterest account because after looking into everything they found that they couldn't legally share the photos without fear of being possibly sued, I'm not on pinterest but won't be opening an account on there now after reading the article! I was going to join for inspiration photos for blog challenges so instead I just took some photos of objects in my home as I didn't dare risk it! hope that helps, hugs, Jane xxx
Pinterest is a very touchy subject for some - I personally don't mind at all - it's a great form of advertisement.
I go to www.depositphotos.com and buy credits - they have gorgeous images. And, once purchased you can most certainly use them on your blog. I know several ladies in business who use them on their Websites as well. We never resell them, but it's ok to use on blogs/websites for non-resale.
I just buy credits for $10 or $20 a month and the Downloads are usually $1 or so each. You get a lot of photos that way. Hope I helped! xo
P.S. - I love your blog, and your quotes are always a bright spot in my week!
Hi Abby,
I will tell you what my really good friend (who is an attorney) told me when I started my blog. NEVER use a copyrighted image. It is very serious business and frankly, I am stunned that bloggers aren't giving the proper credit for a picture. Somewhere along the line, it will cause trouble.
I love your quotes....always food for thought.

This is a sticky subject. We have a commercial photography/video business. Some of our clients are pretty well known, and we have non-disclosure/non-share/non-compete agreements with some. And there are a few clients who pay a "buyout" for the work we do. If one of their images gets shared or used in a context not original to the work, then it is an infringement of copyright. It would be the same for any artist or musician. If it is something we wish to share (i.e. personal work), most of us would be okay, as long as it does not get passed off as someone else's creation. And we have seen that happen, and know of people who've taken credit for work they did not have anything to do with. And it's been happening even before the days of the Internet. It becomes costly and time consuming to persue the guilty parties. I was enamoured with Pinterest at first. . . because I believed that it was photography that was specifically loaded to that website, and that the artists were okay with this. However, I see that one can "pin" an image from just about any source. Not too sure that's a good idea, then. However,I think that for the purposes for which you are using it (blogging), it should be okay. You are just showing a beautiful picture that you think others would like to look at. And I love looking at beautiful images!
Dear Abby,
CONGRATULATIONS , how well deserved, your flower bouquet is fantastic beautiful- and without doupt your own photoes can easily messure up to the ones you show via Pinterest.
I think it is wise to ask before using someone elses photoes, sweet .
I am not worried at all. I researched it pretty throughly and found there has not been any...nada...no lawsuits filed! I say as long as you give credit, your fine!

I love this quote!
I have no experience in these matters so will leave it to others to comment on copyright. But I've always liked your photos and the little snippets of your "finds" that you share with us. Beautiful photo of your work today - congratulations on getting published in Artful Blogger - and great quote as always!
My thought on the matters is as long you give credit to the person there shouldn't be any problem ...it's when you claim it as your own that's where the problems begin....
Just like when you quote someone on here...you always tell us who wrote it.... same way with pictures....if you lift it from their blog I would ask first...but if it's in a public forum....then just link back to them....and give their name....
I have yet to do the pinning thing but I don't think I would ever put anything on my blog. Just use it for my personal use. I enjoy it more when bloggers put their own pictures on:) I love the one today. You make such pretty flowers! :)
